"College is nothing more than a baby-sitting service. These students are totally unprepared for the real world. The reality for women who want to work in PR is that they are going to be working with 24 catty [women] who will backstab and compete with them. No one will say thank you. You will eat lunch at 5 p.m. It sucks and it’s hard work."

- Kelly Cutrone in “Why Millennial Women Are Burning Out At Work Before 30” (via missjennab)

This quote kind of bothers me. It reminds me of the people in law school. You know the type, that were always talking about how hard it was and that it was nothing like undergrad, and people outside of law school don’t understand how competitive and stressful the entire process is. Fuck you. Everyone’s job/life is hard. Stop assuaging your sense of inferiority for not going to medical school. (I can say that because I went to law school)

It doesn’t really make sense. If PR is full of catty women, is the conclusion that all hard working, career driven women are catty? Or is it that Kelly Cutrone only hires catty women that never say thank you?

And the whole “college doesn’t prepare you for anything” argument is just well, missing the point of college. Unless you are going to be a professor or doctor, college won’t prepare you for any type of career per se. But to say that college didn’t expand my horizons, expose me to an insanely large cross-section of individuals, or that it didn’t have a profound impact on my life is ridiculous. College shouldn’t prepare you for how shitty the ‘real world’ is. College has super shitty moments too. Let’s face it, this quote should be “LIFE FUCKING SUCKS. IT’S BASICALLY NEVERENDING REITERATIONS OF HIGH SCHOOL OVER AND OVER UNTIL YOU DIE.” But who wants to hear that?

College doesn’t prepare you for life: it’s a part of it.

So don’t squander your life: any of it.

What do they all have in common?

They all have unusual names. And they are all artists whom I admire, respect, and figuratively drool over.

Also, I heard that Alex Prior kid has a really cool birthday or something. See?
